What is Cotillion?

Cotillion has been around since the early 1800’s.  Today Cotillions are present in many cities. Cotillion is considered by many, to be a part of a child’ social education.  Boise Cotillion will offer dance instruction and exposure to proper social etiquette, in a fun, age appropriate party atmosphere.  Children will gain an appreciation of the joy of a variety of music and dance, as well as practice good manners and gracious behavior.  Each party/lesson will offer instruction in traditional social dances as well as popular favorites, along with salsa, swing, and others.  Partners are arranged, and change often. Each child will have approximately eight different partners per night. Emphasis will be placed on proper social etiquette and fun.  Through instruction and practice, good manners become second nature, and children gain confidence and poise because they know how to handle themselves in a variety of social situations.  They have fun with their friends, meet new friends from throughout the city, dance, win prizes and enjoy refreshments, while learning social etiquette that will contribute to future success. The parties will be strictly supervised by a combination of the Cotillion directors, the dance instructor, paid assistants and parent chaperones. Appropriate behavior is required of all Cotillion members.
